Meadow Ranch
A Unique Community in Coeur d’Alene for Active Adults 55+
Preserving the Past and Planning for the Future

Coeur d’Alene, Idaho - (July 6, 2007) - ActiveWest Development is pleased to announce its plans for Meadow Ranch, a community for active adults age 55 and better. With a mix of 223 single-family, cottage-style view homes, craftsman-style townhouses and condominiums, Meadow Ranch will offer a variety of living choices, square footage, and pricing, for those seeking an active lifestyle in a secure community located near many conveniences.

The 12-acre neighborhood will feature premier, first-class amenities such as a clubhouse, pool, spas, saunas, an exercise facility, walking trails and sidewalks.

Dennis Cunningham, President of ActiveWest, has long imagined a well-designed, quality development in Coeur d’Alene that caters to those 55 and older. “Actually, it’s 55 and better,” says Cunningham. “The 55 + Boomers of today are very active and desire communities with neighbors of similar age, lifestyles, and interests. Perhaps they are snowbirds who want a quality, turnkey residence where they can enjoy CDA in the summer or are seeking the convenience of living in a secure environment within walking-distance of neighborhood amenities. We plan on providing all that and more with Meadow Ranch,” adds Dennis.

The Meadow Ranch site is best recognized for the historical barn that sits prominently next to Fred Meyers. ActiveWest is designing the project’s theme around the barn and creating a ranch-style neighborhood.

Yes, we’re keeping the barn,” continues Dennis. “That’s the first question asked. I come from a family of Midwestern farmers; my wife and our daughter have horses; and, more importantly, the barn represents a piece of history we should never forget. It was once a thriving dairy farm in the 1950’s. Modern conveniences surround the barn and property, but the barn is a testament to a way of living we shouldn’t forget – how could I take that down?

In addition, Meadow Ranch defines ActiveWest’s core principle of “Preserving the Past and Planning for the Future.” Meadow Ranch has applied for acceptance into the US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) for Neighborhood Development Pilot Program.

Meadow Ranch is one of only four communities in Idaho being considered by the USGBC for the LEED for Neighborhood Development Rating System, which integrates the principles of smart growth, urbanism, and green building into the first national standard for neighborhood design. LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that a development's location and design meet accepted high standards for environmentally responsible, sustainable, development.

Ground Breaking for Meadow Ranch is planned for August, 2007. “We’re very excited about Meadow Ranch. Just through word of mouth, people are already interested. It’s amazing how people know of someone retiring in CDA, downsizing, or looking for a second home, who are very interested in securing a home there. There’s a reason that Money Magazine recently selected CDA as the #1 City for Young Retirees. Meadow Ranch is providing homes for a growing segment of our population. It is a great time for this type of community in Coeur d’Alene,” states Sharon Cunningham, Director of Sales & Marketing for ActiveWest.

ActiveWest is committed to developing projects that foster healthy lifestyles, revitalize existing neighborhoods, and respect the environment. ActiveWest projects range from urban cottages and active adult communities such as Meadow Ranch to office buildings and other mixed-use developments in Idaho and California. As a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and the US Green Building Council (USGBC), ActiveWest is one of a select group of forward-thinking developers who are building green projects throughout the U.S. Offices are located in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Carlsbad, California.
